Alexandra Tsang, Psy.D.

 

Dr. Alexandra Tsang is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a sub-specialty in Forensic Psychology. She presently serves as the Director and Chief Psychologist at Kane County Diagnostic Center. With 24 years of expertise in the field of forensic psychology, Dr. Tsang has extensive experience in conducting a wide array of evaluations, ranging from fitness to stand trial and sanity evaluations to risk assessments for violent behavior. These also encompass custody evaluations, Miranda Warning assessments, sex offender and sexually violent predator evaluations, as well as assessments related to school shootings and juvenile transfers.

As a thought leader in her field, Dr. Tsang has developed specialized programs for juveniles in detention centers and provides training on various topics for court services personnel. She has been called upon as an expert witness multiple times and collaborates with the Sheriff’s Office in conducting fitness for duty evaluations and pre-employment screenings. Moreover, Dr. Tsang oversees the recruitment and training of doctoral interns within a nationally accredited internship program, as well as for doctoral-level graduate externs.

Beyond her role at Kane County Diagnostic Center, Dr. Tsang maintains a private practice focused on forensic psychology. In this capacity, she performs forensic assessments for diverse governmental jurisdictions. She is also a public speaker and consultant for expert witness testimony. Dr. Tsang’s wide-ranging expertise has made her a sought-after trainer for the Chicago Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team unit and a presenter on forensic topics to an array of professionals, including polygraph examiners, judges, attorneys, and probation officers. She has authored articles in legal publications on a variety of topics within forensic psychology.

Before her focus on forensic work, Dr. Tsang operated two clinical private practices concentrating on individual and family therapy. Her diverse background also includes roles in inpatient psychiatric units and work with behaviorally challenged children. Dr. Tsang has worked alongside the Department of Children and Family Services in Illinois, contributing to parent-child reunification, adoption processes, and abuse cases. In terms of therapeutic techniques, she is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), including the specialized Flash Technique aimed at reprocessing traumatic memories.

Dr. Tsang completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Loyola University and earned both her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and Doctor of Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She is licensed in the State of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed Sex Offender Evaluator. Dr. Tsang is currently serving her second term as an appointed member of the Fermilab Community Advisory Board. Additionally, she is a member of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force and the Hostage Negotiations Team.
